In Jokers Wild a spectator’s signed card is lost in the deck. Turning the pack face up the performer reveals a joker, which is claimed to be the spectator’s card. Faced with audience skepticism the joker is tapped with the card box and instantly transforms into the chosen signed card. The joker is then revealed inside the closed card box.

I can see that Jokers Wild will appeal to many magicians. It is a good effect, almost self-working, and it leaves the performer holding a regular deck, which can be used for other card effects. The gimmick involved is very easy to use and very unlikely to be detected. After the effect I handled the card box several times not realising that I still had the gimmick in place. The effect does require a re-set but this is relatively simple and could easily be done between performances, even at tables. Once a high proportion of the cards have been signed the bicycle deck can simply be replaced.

With Jokers Wild you can perform a good effect with little or no skill involved. The gimmick is well made, unobtrusive and easy to use. All round good fun. SB
