Grab your favourite pasteboards and hang on. You’re in for one hell of a ride!

If you’ve got a spare 5 hours, you could do nothing better that sit comfortably and marvel at Big Blind Media’s brand new monster DVD set by the talented Cameron Francis - The Omega Mutation.

As with all BBM’s DVDs they are heavily themed, this being no exception. Here’s the story: October 18th 2007, 2.08pm. Distress calls are received at Heathrow Airport from an inbound ‘Boeing 747’ from Florida. The pilot, three crew and twelve passengers have been struck down by a mystery illness. Only one man, an American citizen named Cameron Francis, disembarks the aircraft without showing any symptoms of the deadly bug. He is immediately arrested and quarantined in a secret location where he remains completely oblivious to the chaos that is unfolding as the mystery virus sweeps the UK.

Refusing to admit any connection to the vicious and deadly strain now dubbed the Omega Mutation and claiming to be a close up magician, he carries with him a small attaché case filled with cards, coins and other magical paraphernalia. This questionable practice only serves to raise suspicion of his involvement in what could be the single most disastrous event that the world has ever known! Oh yeah!

Will the guards ever grow tired of his card tricks? Will Cameron ever escape?

One thing is for sure - Cameron Francis is a crazy dude (so he’s in great company at BBM). It is obvious right from the start who his influences are (Sankey & Sanders) so you’ll either love or hate the humour that he injects into his performances and explanations. Personally I love it! Be warned though it will not appeal to all. However, don’t let that put you off buying this as there is some great material on these DVDs.

All 27 of the effects are performed in a quarantine tent situ with the assistance of a guard, fully clad in chemical suit. These are then followed by explanations by Cameron with the help of BBM’s Owen Packard.

Here are a few of my favourites to whet your appetite:

• ‘Insecure Restoration’ – this is Cameron’s twist on David Williamson’s ‘Torn and Restored Transpo’.

• ‘Separation Anxiety’ is an Oil and water effect. ‘Oh no not another’ I hear you say, but this is really easy and has a surprise ending! Nice.

• ‘Ring Flight’ is a reel-less ring flight routine that will go straight into your repertoire. Simple but clever!

This could easily have been made into three separate DVDs and with a price tag of £50, it may seem like a lot, but at just under £2 an effect you can’t really go wrong.

The production of this DVD is second to none - from the DVD case, the soundtrack to the filming. BBM certainly do make great products. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Highly recommended. PS

What's Hot: Fantastically produced DVD set with some great commercial magic!
What's Not: The strong theme could put some people off?
Star rating: *****
